This assignment required us to design a series of book covers for classic fairy tales. The stories we had to incorporate were Cinderella, Hansel & Gretel, Rapunzel, Little Red Riding Hood, Sleeping Beauty, and Snow White. The elements for each could vary but had to be immediately recognizable as a set.
I chose to use a stained glass style for all the elements of my piece. The background remains the same across the various titles, though the colors change to match the feel of the story. The artwork changes to match major elements of the story and make it recognizable immediately at a distance. The series required that "Grimm's Fairy Tales" be present on all the titles as well, and I chose to make it a unifying element by having in in the same placement.
The letters and typography are all hand drawn and created in Illustrator, then individual pieces were colored to enhance the individual pieces and match them to the drawings on their specific covers.
